The St. Louis County Revenue office is responsible for maintaining detailed property descriptions of all  residential and commercial properties in St. Louis County.  The information for residential property includes specifics about age, size, floor plan, number of rooms, number of bathrooms, as well external living areas such as decks, patios, and pools.

They also have detailed information about all property sales, including date of sale, amount of sale, and the type of sale such as normal market, foreclosure, transfer of title, etc.

All of this is public information and available either through the St. Louis County Revenue offices, or viewable online via the St. Louis County Revenue website at https://revenue.stlouisco.com/ias/.  Information on the website can be retrieved through various identifying means, such as address, owner name, or property id.

Though not particularly modern, the site is functional and useful for research.  Plus, the County can’t very well dispute the legitimacy of your information if it was acquired from their own database.

A google search on “Stl County Revenue” will give you a link to this site, then click on the link below:

The site loads with a default search of locator number.

The site loads with a default search of locator number.  If you click on “Property Address,” you can enter a street name and it will list all of the properties on that street, or any version of that street name, like a Drive, Court, Lane, etc.  Properties listed will include residential and commercial parcels.  To reduce the list, key a more specific street name or a specific address number.  Note that the specification of “Drive” or “Lane,” for example, should not be included in the field with the street name but specified in the box marked “suffix.”  The fields are not case-sensitive but do not handle extra blank spaces.

From the list of property addresses displayed at the bottom of the page, click on the address line for the property you’d like to view and the top panel will be loaded with partial property information.  I suggest, for ease of use, click on the link on the left titled, “Printable Version” to expand the information to display all available property categories at one time.  Other links only show a portion of the data.

There are a couple of other important links on this page that you might want to take a look at.

This drop-down offers a change of selection for prior year information.  Some of the links will be affected by this selection, such as the property sketch, but some links will only show the current year, regardless, such as the “Assessor’s Comparable Sales.”

This link shows the comparable home sales that were used to calculate the assessed value of your home.  It lists in detail the comparative data and values.  You might want to spend some time here.  I’ll discuss it in more detail a bit later.

This link provides a list of the home sales within 5000 feet of the property being queried that are eligible to be used as comps for the reassessment year.  For 2019, this includes sales from 2016, 17, 18, and early 2019.

The sections displayed on the printable view include Ownership and Legal Information, …

… Assessment Information for current and prior years, …

… Dwelling Information, …

… Sales Information, other buildings, and property sketch, …

… and “Documents,” which contains links to your reassessment notices and projected liability, etc.
This documents page is also worth a look, especially for finding historical information not available elsewhere online.

I’ll be visiting some of these links in more detail in the “Why-for” section.
