Welcome

Grrrr….!

I live in St. Louis County, Missouri.  Like the rest of Missouri and many other states, the St. Louis County Assessor's office reassesses property values every other year, and subsequently the value used for calculating annual real estate taxes.

In 2017, the semi-annual re-assessment of my residential property resulted in an increase in appraised value of more than 15%.  Almost 18%, actually.

That’s an increase of almost 1/5th of the value of my property, in just two years!  Impressive, since the general housing market certainly hadn’t reflected that, and since I’ve done very little to my property in the last twenty-plus years.  There were no new schools built, no new highways, nothing that would have peripherally or residually increased the value of my property.

So, with that unknowingly fatal move on their part, the St. Louis County Assessor’s office poked the bear.  This is the story of my journey and the details of what I discovered.  With 2019 being another reassessment year and reassessment information recently being posted online, you might be interested in what I have posted here.
